I’ve always been a radio geek AND a fan of The Clash and REM (especially their earliest stuff), so Radio Clash and Radio Free Europe were real treats. Also the shortwave/pirate radio shoutouts, as I’ve been a shortwave geek since childhood, still occasionally listen to the time station, and used to scan the dials late at night for interesting stuff (it’s where I first heard shortwave stations, actually).
Unfortunately, the shortwaves are not what they used to be, but I’m still tempted to replace my 30-year-old multiband that doesn’t receive like it once did. Maybe we need a Substack hangout for shortwave geeks.
